New PE ELAN 6100 DRC ICPMS |
| WCAS uses ICPMS for trace metals analysis. Samples in solution are pumped into a nebulizer which produces a fine mist, entrained in argon. The argon gas is inductively heated to ~10,000oC forming a plasma containing electrons and positively charged atoms. A portion of the | plasma is introduced into a quadrapole mass spectrometer, where positive ions in the plasma are separated. Each element produces a unique mass spectrum, and the concentration of each element is measured from the intensity of the signal for its unique mass. For more information - ICP-MS. |
