CDC BiomonitoringThe Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has on on-going biomonitoring project to measure environmental chemicals in humans. Their latest report was released in July 2005 and can be viewed at CDC Report. Humans are exposed to these chemicals through the environment, food, and commercial products. The report gives the results of testing thousands of people for toxic metals, tobacco smoke, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls and dioxins, phthalates, phytoestrogens, pesticides, and herbicides. The methods used are referenced in the appendix of the report. CaliforniaAlong similar lines, in September 2006, Gov. Schartzenegger signed AB1379 into law, aka Healthy Californians Biomonitoring Program. According Sen. Ortiz, co-sponsor along with Sen. Perata, "We are experiencing a dramtic increase in chronic illnesses, and mounting evidence links incidence and severity to environmental contaminants."
